SEO Analysis for Content Plans

Competitor research during plan generation: keyword gaps, title patterns, content opportunities.

SEO Analysis adds competitor research and keyword assistance to the Single Post content plan workflow. It is not a standalone admin screen — it appears as the Competitor Analysis Assistant on the Topic step of Content Generation.

Use it to research competitors, pick headings and keywords, and optionally let web-search-capable models enrich the generated content plan with keyword gaps and content opportunities.

Where to Find It

  1. Go to SmartyPress AI → Content Generation (#/content-generation).
  2. Open the Single Post flow.
  3. On the Topic step, the Competitor Analysis Assistant appears above the topic field.
Note: SEO Analysis has no dedicated menu item or admin page. Enable or disable the module under SmartyPress AI → Components (#/components).

Requirements

  • SEO Analysis module must be enabled (Components → SEO Analysis)
  • At least one research source must be ready:
    • AI Web Search (Sonar) — OpenRouter connected with a Perplexity Sonar model that has web search capability
    • Yandex Search — Yandex API key + Folder ID, and a Russian site locale (ru_RU)

Competitor Analysis Assistant

The assistant lets editors gather structured research before generating a plan:

  1. Enter a Focus Keyword (this becomes the primary focus keyword for the plan).
  2. Choose a Search Source when more than one is available: Yandex Search or AI Web Search (Sonar).
  3. For Sonar, select a Search Model.
  4. Click Search Competitors to call smartypress/v1/seo-analysis/competitors.
  5. On Russian locales with Yandex configured, click Suggest Keywords (Yandex Wordstat) to call smartypress/v1/seo-analysis/keywords.
  6. Select useful competitor headings and keywords. Selected research is passed into plan generation.
Tip: Selected headings and keywords are shown as chips under the results table. They are sent with the plan request so the AI can build a stronger outline without copying competitor content.

Automatic Research During Plan Generation

When the SEO Analysis module is enabled and the selected provider/model supports web search, plan generation can also run automatic competitor research:

  1. AI extracts 3–8 search queries from your topic
  2. It performs competitor research using web search
  3. Analyzes competitor titles, headings, keyword clusters
  4. Identifies keyword gaps and content opportunities
  5. Creates a stronger content plan based on the research

Research Data

The plan may include a research section with:

  • Search Queries — queries extracted from your topic
  • Competitors — titles, URLs, observed keywords, heading patterns
  • Keyword Gaps — topics competitors missed
  • Title Patterns — common patterns in competing titles
  • Content Opportunities — angles not covered by competitors
Note: Automatic plan research activates during content plan generation when the model supports web search. The Competitor Analysis Assistant is the interactive UI on the Topic step. Neither path is used by Magic Wand actions.

Workflow Checklist

  1. Confirm that SEO Analysis is activated on the Components screen.
  2. Open Settings and connect OpenRouter with a Sonar model, or configure Yandex on a Russian locale.
  3. Open Content Generation → Single Post → Topic step.
  4. Enter a focus keyword, search competitors, and optionally fetch Wordstat suggestions.
  5. Select the headings/keywords you want to pass into the plan, then generate the plan as usual.
  6. Review the draft plan and SEO fields before publishing.
