Step 1: Add an API Key

1. Go to SmartyPress AI → Settings.
2. In the AI Providers section, open a provider card (for example OpenAI or DeepSeek) and enter your API key (OpenAI keys typically start with sk-...).
3. Click Save Provider Settings. The plugin saves the key and automatically tests the connection (there is no separate Test Connection button).
4. After a successful connection, optionally set the Default Provider on the Settings screen and click Save Changes.

Step 2: Generate Your First Title

1. Open any post in the Gutenberg editor.
2. Click the SmartyPress AI Writer button in the top toolbar (orange sparkle icon).
3. Select Generate Title from the dropdown.
4. Review or edit the Prompt in the modal (add topic details in the prompt or rely on existing post content as context).
5. Click Generate.
6. The AI-generated title is written into the post title field.

Step 3: Try Magic Wand

1. Write or paste a paragraph into a Paragraph block.
2. Select the block and click the wand icon (AI Generate) in the block toolbar.
3. In the modal, choose Rewrite from the Template dropdown (or pick another template).
4. Click Generate, review the suggested changes, then click Apply to update the block.

Step 4: Explore Content Generation

For full article generation, go to SmartyPress AI → Content Generation (requires the Content Generator module to be enabled in Components). Enter a topic, configure settings, and generate a complete post with title, sections, content, and excerpt in one flow.
